The DTD OPV (Over Pressure Valve) calibrated at 1.4 bar is an automatic dump device designed to prevent accidental rupture of the bladder due to excessive internal pressure. It is a critical safety component, especially during rapid ascents or inflator malfunctions.
Key Features:
-
Precision Calibration (1.4 bar): The internal spring is calibrated to open automatically when the differential pressure between the inside of the bladder and the external environment exceeds the safety threshold. This allows immediate venting of excess gas, closing as soon as the pressure returns to within limits.
-
Stainless Steel and Technopolymer Material: Made with a high-resistance plastic body and an internal stainless steel spring, materials chosen to resist galvanic and salt corrosion typical of the marine environment.
-
Low Profile: The design is engineered to minimize external bulk, reducing the risk of the valve snagging on wrecks, rocks, or guidelines during a dive.
-
Manual Dump System: In addition to the automatic function, the valve is equipped with a cord (usually ending with a knob) that allows the diver to operate the dump manually at any time.
-
DTD Compatibility: Designed to be installed on standard DTD bladder flanges, but compatible with most technical wings that use the same connection diameter.
Operational Advantages:
-
Structural Protection: Prevents bladder seams or heat seals from failing due to uncontrolled gas expansion during ascent.
-
Mechanical Reliability: The mechanism is simple and robust, designed to function correctly even in extreme conditions and after numerous use cycles.
-
Ease of Maintenance: It can be easily unscrewed to inspect the gasket seat or to remove any sand or salt residue that might compromise its seal.
