The stainless steel Wing Nut is a high-strength fastener designed for mechanically securing backplate and wing (BCD) systems to twin-tanks or single tank adapters (STA).
Technical and Construction Features:
-
Material: Made entirely of marine-grade stainless steel (SS). This material ensures absolute resistance to salt corrosion and prevents galvanic oxidation, guaranteeing that the thread will not seize over time.
-
Wing Design: The "wing nut" shape (side wings) is designed to provide optimal mechanical leverage, allowing for extremely firm manual tightening without the need for wrenches or external tools.
-
Standard Threading: Compatible with standard threaded rods and bolts (usually M8) used in twin-tank bands and single tank adapters.
-
Robust Profile: Unlike plastic or composite versions, the solid steel structure is virtually indestructible and resistant to violent impacts, crushing, and strong stresses during heavy equipment transport.
Advantages in Underwater Use:
-
Mechanical Reliability: It is the preferred fastening system in technical configurations due to its simplicity and indestructibility. Once tightened, it maintains its position even under vibrations or stresses typical of deep dives.
-
Ease of Operation: The wide wings allow for extremely easy tightening and loosening of the nut even when wearing dry gloves or thick neoprene gloves, or in cold hand conditions.
-
Safety: The metallic material avoids the risks of sudden breakage due to crystallization (typical of old plastics), ensuring that the cylinder assembly always remains firmly anchored to the backplate.
-
Minimum Maintenance: Requires only periodic rinsing with fresh water to remove salt residue, maintaining thread fluidity for years.
