ECHO also checks the breathing mix for carbon monoxide: a type of contamination that is invisible, odorless, and tasteless, but absolutely necessary to detect before diving. It is the safety check you tend to overlook, but cannot regret.
Helium measurement is handled by an ingenious acoustic sensor that does not need to be replaced. Less maintenance, one less worry between dives.
